Real-Time Campus Camera Monitoring With the Cameras You Already Have

Many campuses have spent the last few years adding cameras, and the next question at the board table is how officers get to see what those cameras see while it is still happening.
At its September 24, 2025 meeting, the University Affairs Committee of the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees heard a campus safety update from the UNC Police chief. The minutes list expanded camera coverage among the improvements, and they record the chief's framing: “The goal isn’t just faster response—it’s prevention.” One trustee urged the university to move forward with a Live Response Center so officers can see camera feeds in real time, and the committee asked for a proposal and cost estimate by January 2026.
That conversation is familiar to a lot of campus public safety teams. The cameras are already on the buildings, the parking decks, and the residence hall lobbies. Seeing all of them at once, on an ordinary Tuesday afternoon, is a different job.
Let the cameras point to the moment
VOLT is designed to work with most of the IP security cameras a campus already has. Instead of asking someone to watch every feed, AI flags a moment worth a look, such as a fall, a fight starting, or someone where they shouldn't be. A VOLT reviewer checks it before your team is notified, so the officer knows which camera and where to go.
Most days, that looks ordinary. A student who slipped on the library steps gets someone there sooner. A shoving match outside the dining hall gets an officer walking up before it grows. A visitor still inside an academic building after it closed for the evening gets a friendly escort back to the door.
It fits the plan a board is already building
None of this replaces patrol, officers, or the planning a board has asked for. It gives the people doing that work more eyes for a lean team, across the cameras the campus has already paid for. Weapon detection is often why a campus first looks at AI for its cameras. The everyday moments on the quad are where it shows its value week to week.
If your team is planning how to get more from your campus cameras this year, you can request a demo.
