Our AI-driven video intelligence platform only flags and stores footage when specific incidents occur, such as a weapon detection or medical emergency. We don’t collect or retain unnecessary student footage. By focusing on events, not individuals, we reduce the creation of education records under FERPA.

VOLT is not a passive recorder. It uses smart detection to isolate relevant moments such as a fight, fall, or security breach ensuring that only footage “directly related to a student,” as defined under FERPA, is surfaced and managed appropriately.

In situations where footage may involve multiple students, VOLT helps institutions comply with FERPA access rules by enabling redaction and segmentation where reasonable, allowing one student’s parent to inspect a record without compromising another student’s privacy.

All video and incident data is stored in encrypted AWS cloud environments that are SOC 2 compliant​. We operate within a virtual private cloud (VPC), using strict access control policies and logging to ensure that only authorized users can access student-related content​.

VOLT’s system integrates with each institution’s single sign-on (SSO) solution and allows granular permissions, ensuring that only the right administrators can access or review FERPA-protected content​.

If footage is created and maintained for a law enforcement purpose, it falls outside of FERPA by definition. When shared across departments (e.g., from campus safety to administration for disciplinary review), our system helps categorize that footage appropriately so that FERPA obligations are met when needed​.
