In a significant milestone for our mission to help protect people and save lives, VOLT has officially received Developmental Testing and Evaluation Designation under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s SAFETY Act. This is a big step,  not just for our team, but for our customers, our partners, and the broader public safety community.

What is the SAFETY Act?

The SAFETY (Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies) Act was enacted by Congress after 9/11 to incentivize the development and deployment of effective anti-terrorism technologies. Managed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the SAFETY Act provides liability protections to companies whose technologies demonstrate the potential to prevent or mitigate acts of terrorism.

A Developmental Testing & Evaluation Designation (DT&E) acknowledges that a technology,  like VOLT, is promising enough to be tested in real-world conditions with certain legal protections during that process. It’s a rigorous vetting process and an early signal of market trust.

Why Does This Matter?

This designation isn’t just a badge. It’s a message to our customers that:

Our technology meets the federal bar for anti-terrorism applications
We’re committed to ongoing innovation and testing in diverse, real-world scenarios
You can trust VOLT in your most mission-critical environments

For many public and private institutions, including schools, universities, stadiums, corporate campuses, and healthcare facilities, this designation may also unlock new pathways for procurement, grant funding, or insurance benefits.

What VOLT Submitted for Review

Our SAFETY Act submission focused on our real-time video intelligence platform, which leverages AI to detect and respond to safety threats like:

  • Weapons and active assailants
  • Fights and physical altercations
  • Medical emergencies like “person down” events
  • Suspicious behavior and loitering
  • Security anomalies such as extended dwell time or unauthorized access

All of this is visualized through our signature 3D geospatial portal, a dynamic digital twin of each customer’s facility, allowing for real-time situational awareness and historical incident analysis.

What Sets VOLT Apart

In an environment flooded with alert fatigue, false positives, and clunky interfaces, VOLT is built to discern, not just detect.

“We don’t just drop software and disappear. VOLT’s team is with you from setup through success.” - Colin Quirk, VOLT AI

We integrate seamlessly with your existing camera systems, avoid invasive facial recognition, and offer a human-in-the-loop AI model that ensures only validated alerts make it through,  dramatically reducing noise and helping security teams act faster and more confidently.

What’s Next?

This designation opens the door to further collaboration with DHS as we continue scaling VOLT across the country. We will:

🔬 Continue testing and validating VOLT’s platform in live environments
📊 Share insights with partners and policymakers on how AI can advance public safety
🔒 Stay laser-focused on privacy, transparency, and operational excellence

From our founding mission in the wake of violence to this national recognition, our path has always been about one thing: protecting people with purpose-built technology.

We’re proud of this milestone, and more determined than ever to help security teams stop incidents before they escalate.
